2020 – Word of the Year

2020 - Word of the Year

I’ve never been one for New Year’s resolutions. (Who wants to start their year with a 12-month to-do list?) Instead, I have the tradition of setting my intention through a word that describes where I am, and where I’m going.

My word for 2020?

GROWTH.

Here’s why:

Looking back, 2019 was a bridge to a new beginning.

On the professional front, I launched a new website to better showcase my experience and skills as a copywriter and journalist. I strengthened my writing chops through intensive professional development. I began working with clients and publications outside of London, Ontario. And while my son is still super-busy with hockey, he’s now a teenager and in high school. So, the stage is set for the next stage of my career – and I can’t wait.

On the personal front, after several difficult years I am back in my happy place with ‘optimist’ as my default setting. I’ve made new friends and strengthened my connection with old ones. Without going into details on the world wide web, I have reconnected with myself on every level. I’ll be turning 50 later this year, and I’m ready to embrace my second act.

What’s your word for 2020? Or do you prefer to make a list of resolutions? Whatever your choice, words are powerful. Set your intentions and write them down. Then, let's make the next 12 months count.
